Our Work

Manufacturing Africa

Ndarama Works enables manufacturing firms to go to market by analyzing their supply chains and designing business models for the local sourcing of raw materials. It achieves this through the Manufacturing Africa project, funded by the UK government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO).

THE CHALLENGE

The African manufacturing sector faces significant hurdles related to sourcing raw materials locally:

  • The fluctuating availability of raw materials is often due to infrastructure deficits, inefficiencies in supply chains, and insufficient domestic capacity to meet industrial demands.
  • African manufacturers struggle to procure quality raw materials for their production processes. This may stem from poor local processing capacities, insufficient regulation, or lack of investment in technology to improve material quality.
  • A lack of coordination and integration among local suppliers, producers, and distributors leads to inefficiencies in the supply chain. This fragmentation causes delays, increases transaction costs, and limits the scalability of sourcing local materials.

OUR SOLUTION

Targeting manufacturers, local suppliers of raw materials, and Business Development Providers, Ndarama Works provides:

  • Market research on the raw material ecosystem, trade imbalances, and quality issues.
  • Analysis of market players, dynamics, and regulations.
  • Development of practical, innovative solutions for raw material sourcing
  • Mapping out the entire production process, identifying efficiencies.
  • Analysis of manufacturers’ procurement and resource management processes.
  • Assessment and qualification of local suppliers to meet the required standards for quality.
  • Comparison of local practices with global standards to help firms adopt best practices.
  • Promotion of a phased approach that blends local and international sourcing.

The anticipated impact of Ndarama Works’ solutions includes: Enhanced Supplier Quality, Improved Systems, Reduced Lead Times and Higher Profitability, Increased Market Participation, Industry Growth, Better Policy Recommendations.
